Easter: NSCDC deploys 35,000 personnel nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed 35,000 personnel to provide security nationwide as Christians celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This is according to a statement by the NSCDC spokesperson, CSC Babawale Afolabi, on Thursday in Abuja

According to him, the corps Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, had directed Zonal Commanders alongside state Commandants to oversee the deployment within their jurisdiction.

Audi said the deployment was an attempt to ensure tight security before, during, and after the Easter celebration.

He said the officers and men are also to ensure adequate protection of all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the country.

DAILY POST reports that the Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to commemorate Easter.

Audi directed operatives of the anti-vandal unit, Special Intelligence Squad (CGโ€™s SIS), Transport and Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and Special Force, among others, to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.

He said that the corps will be working in collaboration with sister agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.

The commandant urged members of the public to support the activities of security agencies, by giving useful and timely information on suspected acts, and persons for prompt and appropriate response.

Audi felicitated with Christians on the successful completion of the Lent and forthcoming Easter celebration.
