Mushrooms are typically found out in the wild, in the Mines, and in the Farm Cave if you set it up for growing fungi. However, the Mushroom Log is a great way to collect the mushrooms you need for Bundles and crafting.
Stardew Valley 1.6 added many interesting items, so the Mushroom Log may fly under the radar for many players. To craft it, your farmer must reach Level 4 of the Foraging skill. Foraging is a broad skill that refers to your farmer’s ability to harvest resources from the wilderness, including foraging items and chopping down trees. As such, it’s easy to level up.
Once you’ve reached Foraging Level 4, the crafting recipe for the Mushroom Log will unlock. It requires 10 Hardwood and 10 Moss, both resources that aren’t easy to find, particularly if it’s your first time with Stardew Valley.
Hardwood is a valuable resource used to craft many different items. This includes equipment for making certain Artisan Goods, such as the Fish Smoker for making Smoked Fish, as well as upgrades to the Farmhouse. Luckily, players can obtain Hardwood from a few different sources.
All of these require upgraded tools, so make sure to visit the blacksmith Clint to purchase tool upgrades.
To find Moss in Stardew Valley, check the trees as you explore the valley. Some will have green vines growing on their trunks, producing Moss when an Axe hits them. Moss spawns on trees at random every day and appears more often during the random Green Rain weather event.
To use the Mushroom Log, simply place it on the ground. According to the Stardew Valley Wiki, it produces mushrooms every four days; rainy weather will reduce this by a day. However, the number and type of mushrooms produced depend on a few factors you must consider.
The number of mushrooms produced increases based on the number of wild trees (trees grown from Mossy Seeds) growing within a seven-by-seven area around the log. Additionally, the type of tree affects what mushrooms grow. You should typically see a rough distribution of 5% purple, 15% red, and 80% common mushrooms.
Most importantly, this gives you another reason to choose fruit bats over mushrooms for your Farm Cave in Stardew Valley. The Mushroom Log provides an easily accessible and reliable source of mushrooms.
