The Osun State Police Command has stated that its operatives have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the headless corpse of a woman discovered opposite the Osogbo Local Government Secretariat in Oke Baale, Osogbo, on Tuesday.
The command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the presence of the corpse in the area during an interview, stating that relevant authorities have been contacted to evacuate the body.
Opalola further stated that the operatives have begun an investigation into the incident to unravel the mystery surrounding how the body came to be in the spot where it was found.
She said, “Concerning the dead body of a headless and armless woman that was found opposite Osogbo LG secretariat, Oke Baale, I want to inform you that the police are aware.
“The necessary authority has been contacted for the immediate evacuation of the corpse, while discreet investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the presence of the corpse in the area has caused panic, leading residents to gather and discuss the circumstances that could have led to the mutilation of the deceased.
A few residents of the area, who preferred anonymity while commenting on the incident, claimed that the head and arms of the deceased were severed by unidentified assailants.
According to them, the woman was a familiar face in the neighbourhood, often seen walking around the area as she was homeless.
They also mentioned that they were able to identify the deceased by the clothes she was wearing and called for a discreet investigation to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.
