Bethesda Game Studios released a new hotfix for Starfield and while it may not include a plethora of changes, one tweak should make the game significantly less irritating. While the developer behind the massive sci-fi RPG may be known for crafting expansive worlds for players to explore, non-playable characters have always been very hit-or-miss. Across The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, certain characters have captured the hearts of the franchise’s communities but for the most part, wonky AI and stilted dialogue have always plagued Bethesda’s NPCs.
Fortunately, per Bethesda’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the latest hotfix addresses two problems, one of which was recently introduced while the other has been around for quite some time.
One relates to an issue experienced when attempting to take a picture of characters in Photo Mode while the other finally removes a bug that caused NPCs to repeat the same line of dialogue over and over. This glitch has been prevalent in Starfield since its launch and played a major role in breaking any kind of immersion when exploring with a companion or just wandering around a city, taking in the ambient sights and sounds.
While the 1.10.32 patch may only really target two problems in Starfield, the community has expressed confusion as to why the download size is as large as it is. The hotfix will require a 2.6GB update and while that may not seem like much in comparison to other AAA games on the market, it does feel a touch large for a patch that’s only intended to remedy a couple of relatively minor problems. This comes just a few days after the game’s most recent content update which was poorly received by the community the lack of new material it introduced to the game.
Ever since Starfield was released, Bethesda has promised that it intends to consistently update the game with new content and quality-of-life improvements but at the time of writing, very little has been done to expand upon the experience. Various patches have been deployed to fix hundreds of bugs but the most substantial addition to the game was the recently-added Photo Mode. The community has expressed frustration with the developer’s lack of communication regarding its roadmap for the game’s future.
In late 2023, Bethesda confirmed that it was actively working on building upon the framework of Starfield with a major story expansion titled Shattered Space. No solid release date has been confirmed for the DLC but the studio has promised that it will be in players’ hands at some point in 2024. In the interim, fans will need to enjoy the game for what it is now or turn to mods to either flesh out the experience or fix some of its lingering problems.
