The Labour Party’s National Convention, its highest decision-making body, has declared that its 2027 presidential ticket will be reserved for the party’s leader, Mr. Peter Obi.
Simultaneously, the party has granted an automatic right of first refusal to Abia State Governor, Alex Oti, should he choose to seek reelection on the party’s platform.
This decision was reached and formalized in a Communique issued following the party’s National Convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday. The Communique was signed by the re-elected National Chairman of the party, Comrade Julius Abure, and the National Secretary, Umar Faruk Ibrahim.
The Communique states: “The Convention, based on the distinguished record of the Presidential candidate before, during, and after the 2023 General Election, recommends that the 2027 Presidential ticket of the party be exclusively reserved for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the National leader of the party.
“Furthermore, the Convention reviewed the ongoing development and performance of our Governor in Abia state, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, and has passed a vote of confidence in him. The Convention recommends that the 2027 Abia state Gubernatorial ticket of the party be reserved for His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti.”
