Below Deck Season 11’s Chef Anthony’s Self Doubt Could Be His Downfall (His Confidence Is Low)

Below Deck season 11’s Chef Anthony Iracane has struggled through the charter season, but will his lack of confidence be his downfall on the St. David? Throughout his time on Below Deck season 11, Chef Anthony has been getting accustomed to the St. David, which hasn’t necessarily been the easiest process. While the chef isn’t new to the industry, he’s been struggling to find his place aboard the super yacht and dealing with a level of isolation he isn’t used to. As someone who’s struggled with his self confidence consistently throughout his life, Anthony is having a genuinely hard time.

Chef Anthony’s time on the St. David hasn’t been a complete wash, as he has had some spectacular moments with charter guests during their meal services. Though Anthony has shown that he is a perfectionist in a lot of areas, he’s been able to shine creating dishes that have the charter guests wowed with his skills. Though the chef has been struggling, coming been down on himself regularly has made it difficult to bring his confidence back up after. It seems possible that the chef could choose to leave the St. David, or be fired if he continues to struggle.

Chef Anthony has openly shared that he’s a perfectionist, especially when it comes to cooking. The chef explained that his childhood was difficult, as he struggled with his weight when he was young. Though he’s been able to get his health in control, Anthony has not been able to break the cycle of perfectionism that has been causing him to struggle on Below Deck season 11. Throughout the charter season, if Anthony’s dishes are not perfect, he hasn’t been able to cope. Not wanting to serve anything subpar, Anthony’s perfectionism has caused him to run late and serve incorrect dishes.

While Anthony has his own issues with perfectionism, Chief Stew Fraser Olender has been open about his issues with the way the chef conducts himself in the galley. Fraser has explained that Anthony is too disorganized as a chef, which makes things more difficult for him as a stew. While Anthony’s methods of cooking typically yield quality results, there have been instances with the disorganization in the galley has caused him to get confused. While Fraser’s criticisms do have some validity. The issues he’s had with Anthony have been overwhelming, considering the issues Fraser‘s own team has this charter season.

During a recent episode of Below Deck season 11, the Captain had to discuss Anthony‘s performance with him after a very difficult service. Dealing with some eccentric charter guests, Anthony struggled to keep himself organized enough. He was unable to work within the confines of the charter guests’ preference sheets in a timely manner. Captain Kerry Titheradge was dining with the charter guest during their last evening aboard the St. David, and the meal that he shared with the guests with subpar. Unfortunately for Chef Anthony, the one meal that he seemed to fumble was one the Captain was attending.

Thankfully for Anthony, Captain Kerry tends to be easygoing and consistently comes to his crewmembers if he takes issue with their performance. Captain Kerry was firm with Anthony, explaining that the service has not been good, but he did assure the chef that there was room for improvement. Captain Kerry did criticize Anthony, he was kind in his delivery and reassured the chef that he would be able to redeem himself. Anthony’s reservations about his performance made it clear his confidence was rattled. Making a mistake in front of the captain with something Anthony may not be able to overcome

After being lightly admonished by Captain Kerry, Anthony began to struggle with his confidence even more. Considering quitting, Anthony felt that he truly could not do anything right. He sulked throughout the episode, but it was clear that Anthony was taking things harder than necessary throughout the crew’s trip to a resort for some rest and relaxation. Talking in an interview segment, it was clear that Anthony was spiraling and having anxiety surrounding his position. His time on Below Deck season 11 has not been all negative, it’s possible that Anthony’s confidence could be too low to continue his position.
