Despite heavy downpours, State Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima is at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where he is attending the Union Day celebrations for the Republic of Tanzania.

He joins 14 other invited African leaders and dignitaries who are participating in the commemorations.

Malawi’s Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, and other officials are also in attendance.

Currently, thousands of Tanzanians have braved the rains, which have been pouring since morning, to observe their monumental day, marking the formation of Tanzania after the unification of the Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on April 26, 1964.

Several speeches will be made, along with military displays and performances from artists like Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz.

Additionally, Tanzanian citizens born in 1964 are expected to march and release pigeons as a symbol of marking the day.
