The supremacy battle over the control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, between the camps of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has taken another dimension as other key politicians in their camps also engage in clashes.
During a crucial meeting in Abuja on April 17, tensions escalated as Dino Melaye, a strong ally of Atiku and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2023 Kogi State gubernatorial election, engaged in a heated argument with former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom who was a key ally of Wike and member of the then G-5 Governors that worked against Atikuโs presidential bid in 2023.
Reports indicate that the altercation unfolded during a key meeting involving stakeholders from the opposition partyโs north-central geopolitical zone. Melaye expressed astonishment at Ortomโs presence, given his purported anti-party activities that allegedly contributed to the PDPโs losses in both presidential and gubernatorial elections in Benue State.
Asserting the need for disciplinary action against Ortom, Melayeโs remarks ignited a verbal exchange between the two politicians.
