Correctional service, soldiers, vigilantes arrest two suspected armed robbers in Edo

The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service said its personnel, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and operatives of the local vigilante, arrested two suspected armed robbers in Ubiaja in Esan South East Local Government Area.

DAILY POST reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Aminu Sumaila Suleman, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.

He said the suspects are among criminals that are terrorizing the locality and its environs.

He said the suspects were arrested by a combined team of the commandโ€™s Correctional Armed Squad Personnel, Nigerian Army manning guard at the Medium Security Custodial Centre and operatives of the local vigilante in the locality.

He said the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Julius Osemwegie, officer in charge of the custodial centre reported that the suspects were arrested at the scene of the crime.

The commandโ€™s image maker explained that the arrest was sequel to a distress report of the robbery activities at a location close to the custodial centre and the need for timely response.

While positing that the location was raided by the combined team of the security personnel, he added that after an exchange of gun fire, the suspects were over powered and arrested.

Suleman, added that the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Ubiaja divisional office for further investigation.

He listed items recovered from the suspects to include a locally made pistol, some live ammunition, knife, torchlight, mask and objects suspected to be charms.

He noted that the Controller of Corrections, Edo State Command, Emehinola Philomena, commended the combined team for the gallant act taken to further ensure security of lives and properties in their areas of assignment.

He further noted that the Stateโ€™s Controller of Corrections also commended the synergy that has been forged among the various security agencies in the State, warning those involved in crime to desist and not to come close to any of the Custodial Centres nor operate anywhere in the state.

He stated that she assured that security agencies are working in synergy with support of the Edo State Government to eradicate crime and criminality.

She also called on citizens of the state to support security agencies with useful information at all times.
