Four persons were reportedly killed on Wednesday, while five others were seriously injured in a fatal crash at Ayere village along the Ilorin-Bode-Saadu highway in Kwara State.
The Kwara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that the fatal multiple road traffic crash involving two DAF trucks occurred around 1:02 pm along the Ilorin-Bode Saadu route, resulting in an inferno that got both trucks burnt.
A statement by Sector Public Education Officer Busari Basambo in Ilorin on Wednesday said: โOn receipt of the report of the crash around 1:09 pm, FRSC rescue operatives were immediately mobilised to the crash scene, where they rescued five injured male adults to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.โ
She disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that one of the trucks carrying fertiliser and eight passengers wrongfully overtook another vehicle without an adequate view of the road ahead and, in a bid to avoid colliding with an oncoming truck, lost control and swerved to the side, thereby colliding with another truck carrying tomatoes.
According to her: โA total of 10 persons were involved in the crash. Five got injured, while four others sadly lost their lives. So far, the fire has been put out, and the obstructions cleared to allow the free flow of traffic.โ
