The long queues that resurfaced in filling stations across Lagos and Ogun states on Friday have subsided.
Checks by our correspondent on Saturday indicated that filling stations are gradually getting supplies to sell to motorists.
Saturday PUNCH reported that long queues resurfaced in filling stations across Lagos State on Friday, creating fears of impending fuel scarcity.
Petroleum marketers said the non-availability of Premium Motor Spirit in filling stations located in Lagos and Ogun states during the week was as a result of shortage in supply.
Officials of the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, however, expressed confidence that the queues would ease off before the coming Eid-il-Fitri festival, saying the supply hitch was compounded by the Easter break.
In a statement made available to our correspondent earlier, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited said there were no products in its Apapa depot.
The spokesperson for the NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, said that the queues at NNPCL stations in the state resulted from prices differential, as there were also no products at the company’s Apapa depots.
“The NNPC Limited wishes to inform the general public that the tightness in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supply witnessed in some filling stations in Lagos was as a result of an issue in one of the depots in the area.
“The NNPC Retail Limited, our retail arm, has since resolved the issue and… normalcy will be restored within the affected area,” he said.
