Harry Potter: Tom Felton Wishes 1 Draco Malfoy Deleted Scene Made The Final Cut

There is one Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets scene that Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) wishes had not been cut. Chamber of Secrets was the second Harry Potter movie and was released in 2002. While the central members of the cast were Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Felton’s Draco still played a central role as Harry’s rival, as Harry spends much of the movie suspecting that Draco is Salazar Slytherin’s heir.

Much of Chamber of Secrets is spent developing the lore of the Wizarding World, and the Malfoy family is a central part of that world. Still, in an interview with E! News, Felton revealed that there was one Chamber of Secrets scene that could have better communicated their importance. While it was released on a DVD, it never made the theatrical cut. Felton wishes that it could have made the final cut, as it was a rare opportunity to work with Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy). Check out his full quote below:

The deleted scene from Chamber of Secrets featured Lucius and Draco visiting the Borgin and Burkes shop. After entering the store, Draco went to touch a magical item, and his father immediately took notice and struck him. After agreeing not to touch anything else, Draco would go on to try to touch yet another magical item, drawing his father’s ire. He swiftly apologized, but his father remained a dominating presence. The scene also featured Harry trying to avoid their attention.

While not overwhelmingly important to Harry’s story, this scene was essential to Draco’s. It shows the influence that Draco’s father has over him and the brutal methods that he has always used to ensure Draco’s obedience. That makes Draco’s later acquiescence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 more believable and comprehensible for viewers. As this is one of the few scenes that Felton starred in alongside Isaacs, it was also a rare opportunity to depict their complicated dynamic.

He may not be the most important member of the Harry Potter cast, but Draco still deserved the opportunity to have his arc told fully and in-depth. As the central member of House Slytherin in Harry’s life, he represented the House every time Gryffindor and Slytherin waged war. He also stood as the representative of young wizards living under threat of dominant Death Eater parents. The deleted Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets scene could have shown another side to Draco, and its removal prevented that.
