Brazil legend Antonio Careca has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his contribution to Napoli since he joined the club, but he believes the club can find a good replacement if he leaves, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen has been outstanding since he moved to Napoli four years ago. The Nigerian attacker has become an integral part of the team, helping them to their first Scudetto in 33 years last season.
The 25-year-old hitman has registered 74 goals and 18 assists in 129 appearances for the Partenopeans. And because of his brilliance on the pitch, he has attracted suitors from some top European clubs. French champions PSG are one of the suitors, as they are searching for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who will leave at the end of the season. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been in the mix, as they both need prolific goal poachers.
Napoli could make up to €130 million from Osimhen’s sale, the highest they would be making from any sale. However, it would leave a big vacuum in the club and cause them to struggle.
Nonetheless, retired Napoli star Careca, who played for the club for six years believes that they will find a good replacement in the summer.
“I hope that he(Osimhen) can continue to do well just like he did in Naples. I met him, he is a respectable boy and he did very well with Napoli, scoring many goals and contributing to the championship victory should he really leave. But I believe Napoli can find a new player worthy of Osimhen,” Careca said per Napoli Magazine.
Over the years, Napoli have been quite resourceful. Before Osimhen, they had other lethal attackers like Lorenzo Insigne, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavanni, and Gonzalo Higuain. They just might get another top striker soon.
