How to Vacation in a Residential World in The Sims 4

With more expansion packs coming to The Sims 4, planning a vacation in a residential world could be a fun getaway for you and your characters. It is usually difficult to enjoy the extreme differences between worlds without substantial planning to visit limited destination spots. However, an update for the game allows those who own DLC areas to vacation in almost any world they please.

With so many diverse areas and hidden worlds in Sims 4, it can be hard to determine where you want to go. A vacation might be a short trip to Windenburg or a longer stay in an exotic place like Selvadorada. You need to plan for options in areas you want to visit, from what the properties look like there to what you could change to make your stay easier.

The best way to take vacations in residential worlds is to convert lots into rental properties and craft special properties that allow you to take vacations in worlds you want to visit. When looking into a possible vacation spot, check to see which lots can be transformed into rental areas. If there are none, you can always start from scratch and build up an empty lot from the start into a planned vacation home.

Enter the “Manage Worlds” option to select which world you want to add a rental property to, then enter the “Build/Buy” mode to continue. Having free DLC in Sims 4 will help expand your options from here, but go to the Venue Info panel from the house icon in the top left corner of your screen regardless. The “Venue Info” panel opens up at this point to the “Lot Type” dropdown menu to eventually show you the “Rental” prompt.

Selecting this option will turn a property you want into a rental, making it the ideal vacation home for your next trip. You can tell which lots are rental properties by the star icon over the building on a world map in Sims 4. When you are ready to travel, go into the “Travel” menu from your Sim’s phone at your Active Household and choose the “Take a Vacation” option to start the vacation process.

From here, you can choose how many days you want to vacation in your rental property, but you can’t enter “Build/Buy” mode again while you’re on the temporary lot. Adding a Sim to households rented for a vacation may lead to you lacking some resources for your stay. Thankfully, anyone taking a vacation to a residential world in The Sims 4 can easily use a phone, mailbox, or computer to get what they need.
