The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie series has a lot of characters, but it isn’t hard to argue that Wade and Knuckles are the best. Wade Whipple appeared in both Sonic the Hedgehog movies, with him being a comedic sidekick to Tom Wachowski. Although Wade doesn’t have a major role in the films, he is a great comedic relief character, which is why his even greater presence in Knuckles is so much fun.

Wade’s persona of being a goofy loser perfectly matches up with Knuckles’ persona of being a fish out of water warrior, with both characters evolving due to their relationship with each other.
Knuckles’ desire to turn Wade into a warrior is perfect for the story of the Knuckles spinoff, with it being a unique way to continue the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Shying away from the GUN storyline and focusing on Knuckles’ role in Wade Whipple’s family life was a risky move that paid off brilliantly, with their chemistry being the reason that Knuckles is so good.
