Twenty-one-year-old Adejimi Adepoju appeared before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday for allegedly using a fake money transfer to buy a mobile phone.
The defendant allegedly defrauded a phone seller on April 3 at New Market, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, when he bought a mobile phone and paid for it with a fake transfer.
Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the defendant collected a mobile phone worth N180,000 and paid for the item with a fake money transfer.
According to him, the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 157 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
In his plea, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against him by the police.
The defence counsel, Samuel Obi, applied for Adepoju’s bail in the most liberal terms and assured that his client had reliable people to stand surety for him.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Taofeek Badmus, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Badmus also held that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, while one of them must be the defendant’s blood relation.
He thereafter adjourned the matter till May 16 for mention.
