Missing lawyer’s corpse found in Imo forest

The corpse of a lawyer, Garricks Anyanwu, has been discovered in a bush in the Orodo community in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Anyanwu’s decomposing body was found in a decomposed state four days after he was declared missing.

His colleague and coursemate at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Chukwuemeka Mbamala, who disclosed this in a statement, alleged that the deceased lawyer was murdered by unknown assailants, adding that the lawyer’s corpse would be buried on Wednesday (today).

He wrote, “Barr. Garricks Anyanwu was murdered by unknown assassins in his hometown Orodo Mbaitoli L.G.A. Imo State. According to information, his decomposing body was found in the bush on Friday 5/4/2024. This was after his disappearance for four days.

“It was also gathered that he will be buried on Wednesday, 10/4/2024. Garricks Anyanwu was my classmate at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu, a member of the class of 2003.

“We are calling on the authorities concerned to fish out the assassins of our late colleague Garricks Anyanwu. It is unfortunate that lawyers have become an endangered species in our society. Every day, either a lawyer is kidnapped and killed, assaulted by the police, or assassinated. Enough is enough.”

The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, had yet to respond to an inquiry by our correspondent on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
