The Niger State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Bashir Yerima, has said that all the Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria have failed Nigerians.
The Federal Government had mandated the distribution companies to generate, distribute and transmit electricity to all parts of the country after the National Electrical Power Authority failed to carry out the responsibility.
But speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, Yerima said the Discos had performed poorly, adding that the development should not warrant the exit of the state government from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
He said, “It has not got to the point of pulling out of the AEDC, yet the Assembly set out to maybe advise the governor on pulling out of AEDC. Even the governor has been on that line of thinking that he has to pull out of AEDC but it has nothing to do with our independent power generation plans.
“All the Discos have failed. You can quote me in the newspapers that I said so; all the DISCOs have failed, all of them. I don’t know the reason for their failure. For me, nobody is seeing light from the Discos. It is not AEDC alone; it is all the Discos,” he added.
