The evil Batman villain known as Poison Ivy and the iconic Mushroom Kingdom resident and brother to Mario, Luigi, couldn’t be more different as characters save for their shared love of the color green. Luckily for fans, the barrier between their respective worlds can’t keep the members of the cosplay community down, as a new crossover image has combined Poison Ivy and Luigi to form a Mario Party champion who deserves a video game debut.
A new design shared on Instagram, Magda is one-half of the cosplay duo @poison_bats and is a talent who specializes in creating homemade designs based on the leafy looks of Poison Ivy.
Bringing to life other iconic Ivy designs like her video game attire from Batman: Arkham Asylum, her New 52 refresh, her classic costume, and more, Magda has also embodied other fictional characters like Wonder Woman, Barbie, and Sailor Moon, and has even turned Batwoman into a Dark Lord of the Sith, an earlier crossover that set the stage for this “Poison Luigi” design’s more recent debut.
A member of Batman’s sprawling rogues gallery since 1966, Pamela Isley uses her connection to The Green to wage war against the people who would do the Earth harm and is currently trying to turn over a new leaf in her ongoing solo series, Poison Ivy, by G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara. Meanwhile, Luigi is the underrated sibling of Nintendo’s Mario, and is always at his brother’s side whether racing karts, playing golf, thwarting Bowser, or partying the night away, making this Luigi cosplay mash-up with Poison Ivy an unexpected yet refreshing design exclusive to the cosplay community.
Already looking the part of Poison Ivy seemingly without effort, it’s Magda’s blue overalls, green undershirt, “L” cap, and dirtied white gloves that sell the Mushroom Kingdom portion of this cosplay, applying Luigi’s design to a new character flawlessly. Also highlighting Ivy’s plant-based powers to conjure a vine of leaves around her hand, Magda adds the perfect finishing touch to this cosplay by cradling a Piranha Plant in her arm, no doubt acting as the latest tool in her arsenal to aid her in defeating Bat-Bowser and his slew of annoying sidekick underlings.
To make this DC x Nintendo crossover even better, Magda’s @poison_bats partner, Teresa, has similarly created a Harley Quinn/Mario hybrid cosplay, matching Magna with yet another one-of-a-kind live-action look that fans of both fictional worlds can appreciate. Though it’s highly upsetting Poison Ivy and Luigi won’t be meeting in a game of Mario Party or high atop the rooftops of Gotham City anytime soon, the cosplay community always finds a way to provide, with the only question remaining being when fans can expect @poison_bats’ Wonder Woman x Daisy mash-up or a Supergirl x Princess Peach design!
