Angry protesters from Ondo State have besieged the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja demanding the sack of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the partyโs candidate for the coming Ondo State governorship election.
The protesters vigorously pushed for the cancellation of the recent APC primary election held last Saturday. The demonstrators, who made their voices heard outside the partyโs national Secretariat, were met with the presence of security forces barring their entrance. Undeterred, they redirected their protest to the Barcelona Hotels, and subsequently, to the expressway linking Banex Plaza with the Federal Secretariat.
Brandishing placards and banners bearing poignant messages such as โWe reject this fraud called APC primaryโ, โWe want cancellation of this sham called electionโ, and โWe want a fresh primary poll in Ondo Stateโ, the protesters sought to convey their fervent discontent.
In a statement to the press, Kolawole Johnson, the spokesperson for the demonstrators, beseeched President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other prominent party figures to intervene with the National Working Committee (NWC) to nullify the previous Saturdayโs primary and instate a new chairman for the election committee.
He said, โWhat occurred amounted to the manipulation of figures. We implore the party to invalidate the primary and appoint a new individual to oversee the process, not Ododo. We hereby urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address this issue promptly. We are adamantly opposed to the prospect of the opposition seizing control of Ondo State.โ
