Darlene faces a big opportunity in The Conners season 6, episode 8. On the heels of its special 100th episode, life goes on for Dan and his family’s life in Lanford. For Darlene, that includes her continuing her job as a lunch lady at Mark’s college. It was a massive sacrifice for her to choose her current employment to help her son through college. However, it seems like things are looking up for Dan and Roseanne’s middle child, as she may be looking to climb the ranks at work.
Per ABC (via Futon Critic), The Conners season 6, episode 8, “Toilet Hacks and The Management Track,” will see some reorganization at the cafeteria. This presents Darlene with the chance to become its manager, which may not be a lot but would still be helpful in terms of their finances. Elsewhere, Dan also gets a new employment opportunity. Read the full synopsis below:
The Conners season 5 finale saw Darlene make the ultimate sacrifice by choosing to be a lunch lady at Mark’s school despite its abysmal pay, to make sure he gets the education he needs. It’s still odd that despite his supposed intellect, Darlene and David’s son didn’t score a hefty scholarship for his undergraduate. Regardless, it posed a big issue for the family, and with David out of the picture in The Conners for quite a while now, the responsibility of making sure that her son’s future is in order fell on Darlene’s lap.
Being the manager of the school cafeteria would be a great step forward for Darlene. That being said, it may not be a guaranteed promotion for her. Roseanne‘s DNA is rooted in tackling the ups and downs of middle-class America โ something that The Conners preserves despite the sequel spinoff getting its own identity separate from its parent series. While this has worked for years, it also means that Dan’s family always needs to be constantly struggling, at least financially. This is the reason why, until now, he is still trying to pay for the house.
Currently, the fate of The Conners beyond season 6 is still uncertain. Despite its popularity, ABC has yet to renew the show for season 7. Previously, there were rumbles that its current year may be its last, but the latest updates oppose the idea. If the Roseanne sequel spinoff continues, it would be curious what lies ahead for Darlene, since it will still be years until Mark graduates from college.
