THE trial of jailed Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan at the Federal High Court in Abuja took a dramatic turn today, when the defendant collapsed in court.
At the resumed trial, the defendant did not enter the dock when the court registrar called for a continuation of the trial because he was sat in the back seat.
After the defendant failed to enter the dock, the trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, asked about him.
One of the lawyers on the defence team, who sat next to Gambaryan, assisted him by the side while holding his hand towards the dock, but as they moved slowly to the dock, Gambaryan slumped and the lawyer assisted him to sit in the front row seat.
Mark Mordi, the defendant’s lawyer, informed the court that his client had been indisposed and had filed a written application letter to advise the court of this.
At the last sitting, Justice Nwite denied Gambaryan’s bail application on the grounds that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had established that he, like Nadeem Anjarwalla, constituted a flight risk.
The EFCC has charged Gambaryan, Anjarwalla, and Binance Holdings Limited with money laundering and terrorist financing.
