Always Act In Best Interest Of Your Patients, VC Tells Newly Trained Doctors

The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr Fatima Kyari has disclosed that Nigerian-trained doctors are the second highest expatriate doctors practising in the United Kingdom.

Kyari spoke at the 22nd Physiciansโ€™ Oath-Taking Ceremony for Medical Graduates of the College of Health Sciences, University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

She stated that the high rating of Nigerian-trained doctors was a firm validation of their excellent medical training which has made them sought after all over the world.

She urged the new doctors to take their oath seriously and work hard, as they have a lot to contribute to the development of Nigeria.

โ€œApart from saying the condition is this and that, can we look inwards, can we look at how we can make ourselves stay, appreciate what we have and also scale up our training and numbers,โ€ she stated.

Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, urged the 81 medical graduates from the school to always prioritize their patientsโ€™ well-being above all other considerations.

โ€œAs you take this solemn oath today, I urge you to take every part of the oath you swear seriously, commit them to heart and make the same guiding principles throughout your years of practice.

โ€œAlways act in the best interest of your patients and prioritize their well-being above everything else.

โ€œRemember that you are not just treating a disease but also caring for a person who may be in their most vulnerable state,โ€ he said.

He also advised the new medical students to be good ambassadors of the university, urging them to pursue additional knowledge, technique and professional expertise to discover more modern and simplified methods of handling medical cases.
