Barcelona appoint former Bayern Munich manager as Xavi’s replacement

Barcelona have appointed Hansi Flick as their new manager on a two-year contract, Soccernet.football reports.

Flick, who was sacked as Germany coach in September 2023, replaces Xavi, who was dismissed last week.

Flick previously led Bayern Munich to a treble in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League. During his time at Bayern, he worked with Robert Lewandowski, who now plays for Barcelona.

Xavi, who won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in his first full season, was let go after Barcelona finished 10 points behind La Liga champions Real Madrid this season. In his parting comments, Xavi warned that his successor would “suffer” in the role.

Barcelona described Flick as a coach known for his high pressing, intense, and daring style, which has brought him success both at club and international levels. Flick has been out of work since leaving his role with Germany eight months ago.

At Camp Nou, Hansi Flick will reunite with Robert Lewandowski, who scored 26 goals for Barcelona in the 2023-24 season.
