BREAKING: Dethroned Emir Accepts Removal As ‘Act Of God’

The former Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, has accepted his removal from office as an “act of God”.

His acceptance comes in the wake of the changes within the Kano Emirate following the repeal of a law that had previously elevated five first-class kings, including Abdulkadir.

The law was enacted during the tenure of ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and led to the appointment of new Emirs in 2019 and the dethronement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano in 2020.

However, the Kano State Assembly recently repealed the law, which resulted in the dismissal of all emirs appointed by Ganduje.

The former emirs, including Abdulkadir, were given a 48-hour deadline to vacate their palaces and hand over their responsibilities to the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs.

Reacting in an interview with BBC Hausa, Abdulkadir expressed that he harbours no resentment towards anyone involved in his removal.

He accepted the situation as divine will and stated he had no intention of contesting the decision in court.

Abdulkadir further expressed his willingness to serve in another capacity if the opportunity arises.
