Studios’ Kickstarter offerings, from limited edition bonuses to massive Library Edition reprints, and this next collection is a cherry on top.
BOOM! Studios is launching Kickstarter campaign for James Tynion IV: The First Decade. This collection includes the most recognizable original creations from Tynion and his collaborators: Memetic, The Woods, and – of course – the Eisner Award-nominated Something Is Killing the Children. There will be limited edition printings, deluxe hardcover editions, and, for fans who back in the first 48 hours, an early bird reproduction of Tynion’s original script for Something Is Killing the Children #1.

Something Is Killing the Children was first released as a limited run series in 2019 by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’edera. However, it instantly gained a following, branching out into additional issues, a side story with Book of Slaughter, and now an entire “Slaughterverse,” with Book of Butcher.Netflix is developing a live action series, originally with Midnight Mass’s Mike Flanagan, but now helmed by the two creators of Dark and 1899. Seeing the very early beginnings to the hit universe is an exciting prospect for any horror fan, even if they haven’t yet read the original comic.
James Tynion IV has racked up an impressive career for someone only 36 years old. He got his start under the mentorship of Scott Snyder, who at the time was penning Batman’s “Night of the Owls” story. Tynion’s big break came from writing backup stories for this arc, which led to him getting his own spin-off series with Talon, co-led by Snyder. Since then, his star has only risen, netting him multiple Eisners and GLAAD Awards for works like the DC Black Label horror series Nice House on the Lake, and a slew of creator-owned independent comics. Some of these comics will be included in the new BOOM! Studios Kickstarter.
BOOM! Studios has been nonstop with its record-breaking Kickstarters, most recently ending a Lumberjanes 10th Anniversary Library Edition set. Exclusive covers and bonuses like the original script to Something Is Killing the Children are like catnip to comic fans, even without Tynion’s groundbreaking work inside. The Kickstarter goes live on Tuesday, May 14, and the bonus script is only for fans who back in the first 48 hours. Tynion joined his mentor Scott Snyder at the independent publisher DSTLRY, so a deluxe edition of his early comics would be a great way for any horror fan to start their James Tynion IV collection.
