Elsbeth has proven that the beloved The Good Wife and The Good Fight side character Elsbeth Tascioni can more than hold her own, and Screen Rant has an exclusive look at pictures from the first season’s penultimate episode. The series sees actor Carrie Preston reprising her Emmy-winning role as Elsbeth, and leaning even more heavily into the quirkiness of the character. The approach has paid off, with the show generally receiving positive reviews and sitting at a 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Screen Rant is happy to present images from Elsbeth episode 9, which airs Thursday, May 16 on CBS and will be available to stream on Paramount+. The images show Elsbeth in a cocktail bar, meeting the episode’s guest star Arian Moayed. Moayed may be especially familiar to those who have watched Ms. Marvel, Madam Secretary, and Succession, with his character in the latter making it onto Screen Rant’s list of most terrifying Succession characters. As a procedural TV show, Elsbeth is designed so that viewers can jump into any episode without feeling lost. Still, much has happened for the character. The beginning of the season saw Elsbeth Tascioni land in New York, where her law career takes something of a backseat to her new role as an outside observer to the NYPD. Immediately doing more than simply observing, the first half of the season alone saw Elsbeth solving the deaths of a wealthy undergraduate, an apartment co-op board president, an entrepreneur, and more.
Elsbeth has also brought in guest stars like Gina Gershon, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Often, like with Elizabeth Lail’s Quinn in episode 8, guests are at the heart of the crime at hand. Through it all, Elsbeth has maintained a signature quirkiness that sets the show apart from both The Good Wife and The Good Fight—this is why the show’s creators are quick to say it isn’t a true spinoff.
In Elsbeth episode 9, titled “Sweet Justice”, the charismatic owner of an exclusive cocktail bar (Moayed) makes a deadly mistake after seeking revenge on a patron’s behalf. Elsbeth and Officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson) must connect the dots and get to the bottom things. Elsbeth also joins forces with Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) to expose a real criminal after learning the DOJ is close to indicting someone in an ongoing investigation. After that episode airs, audiences will have only one more to watch before the long wait for Elsbeth season 2 begins.
