The Fallout universe sports a very particular style and aesthetic that’s difficult to emulate so it’s impressive that one dedicated fan of The Sims 4 managed to so authentically recreate it. The boundless customization on offer in Maxis’ life simulator is an invitation for creative players to mess around with its various systems and options to develop some genuinely impressive custom creations. It doesn’t take much looking to discover plenty of characters and worlds built to resemble iconic pop culture productions like Star Wars and Back to the Future, but this Fallout build may be the most impressive yet.
Posted to TikTok by creator laneyplayss, the video spotlights a before-and-after look at their Sim living in the Fallout Universe, equipped with their own Vault Suit and Pip-Boy.
Not only does their game faithfully adapts the look of the 1950s, it also illustrates the aftermath of the Great War as the interiors shift to look like grimy and dilapidated. The aesthetic is startlingly accurate and, when coupled with the instantly recognizable music, serves as one of the most impressive recreations of Fallout likely ever seen in The Sims 4.
While it’s easy to imagine that the general aesthetic of desolate retro Wasteland is entirely possible to achieve with the official content available in The Sims 4, the more specific Fallout items were likely implemented with custom content. Following the success of the Prime Video series, fans have been hard at work designing many iconic outfits, items and characters for use within The Sims 4. It’s currently unknown which mods laneyplayss has installed to achieve the desired look, but whatever they are, they’re incredibly effective at emulating the look and feel of the Wasteland.
The Sims 4 is known for providing players with a near endless stream of content in the form of larger expansions and smaller content packs. Maxis has released so many since the game’s release in 2014 that the community has begun requesting that the developer slow down, noting that the amount of secondary content is becoming too expensive in the long run. The studio ultimately began offering the base version of The Sims 4 for free, pivoting into a live-service experience that further monetizes expansions.
The Sims 4 may be nearly a decade old but Maxis’ life-sim isn’t losing momentum as it maintains a healthy community that’s constantly working on new custom content. It’s consistently in Top 20 most modded games on Nexus Mods as creators bring new items, characters, and buildings to the game. Others have shared their add-on that removes annoying features like in-game .s for new expansions, a feature that has irked many players.
