Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, a former Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, asserted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not inclined towards reconciling with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Adangor remarked, “He (Fubara) is not the person people think he is, he is not a peacemaker.”
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adangor stated that he resigned from Fubara’s cabinet in April due to the Governor’s refusal to follow his advice against challenging the validity of the Presidential Peace Pact by President Bola Tinubu regarding the feud between Fubara and Wike. He noted that Fubara wanted to challenge Tinubu’s peace deal aimed at reconciling him with Wike.
The former commissioner recounted that his discord with the Governor commenced on December 18, 2023, following the Presidential Peace Pact in Abuja. He noted that the Governor’s decision to redeploy him from the justice ministry to the Ministry of Special Duties without prior consultation was a consequence of his commitment to the rule of law, prompting his resignation.
Adangor refuted Fubara’s claim of sabotage during his tenure as attorney general, asserting his loyalty to Wike. He explained, “Politically, I am loyal to Wike, there is no doubt about that.”
Regarding his tenure under Fubara, Adangor clarified, “I never applied to work for Governor Fubara; I was invited to serve under him.” He highlighted instances where Fubara allegedly obstructed efforts to resolve conflicts, including refusing to sign a warrant for establishing a customary court in Adangor’s local community.
