Gunmen’s deadly rampage claims lives of four police, FRSC officials in Enugu

Tragedy struck in Enugu State as gunmen launched a brazen attack on two operatives each from the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), resulting in four fatalities.

This incident unfolded in the communities of Orba and Eha-Alumona, located in Udenu and Nsukka Local Government Areas, respectively.

The assault occurred just a day after another tragic incident where two policemen on stop-and-search duty were ambushed and killed, adding to the growing insecurity in the state.

The assailants struck less than a kilometer away from the Government House, intensifying concerns about the safety of residents.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the onslaught commenced around 4 pm, beginning at the Premier Junction in Eha-Alumona and progressing to the Army checkpoint in Orba. In the wake of the attack, four personnel tragically lost their lives, while others sustained injuries of varying severity.

Amidst the chaos, the gunmen targeted a Hilux van belonging to the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community, Igwe Waziri, setting it ablaze. Remarkably, the monarch narrowly escaped unharmed from the harrowing ordeal.

The rampage also extended to the burning of an FRSC van, further exacerbating the devastation wrought by the assailants.

When contacted for comment, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, expressed unawareness of the incident, redirecting inquiries to the Police Public Relations Officer.

However, attempts to reach the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, proved futile at the time of compiling this report.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has vowed to mobilize all available resources to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the recent spate of attacks, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security to the state.
