Obol Points are one of the many collectible items in Hades 2. These sleek black and gold cards are a new form of currency accepted by Charon, who makes a reappearance from his original role in Hades. They’re described as a slick update to the traditional Obols Charon takes from the dead for passage through the Underworld.
While Obol Points are technically a type of currency connected to Charon, you still use Gold Crowns to purchase items from Charon’s shop, just like in Hades. Rather, Obol Points encourage frequent shopping with Charon and promote a new system of rewards accessible at the Crossroads. With this reward system, you can more easily stock up on essential resources.
In the original game, Charon offered his wares to Zagreus for various prices in various rooms, making sure to pay a visit before boss battles. Charon does the same here, including before the Hecate boss fight in Hades 2. Both games have special mechanics connected to the infamous ferryman of the dead. While Hades had its secret boss battle, Hades 2 rewards players for continued purchase of Charon’s goods.
In Hades 2, when you spend 1000 Gold Crowns in Charon’s shop, you’ll get an Obol Point, almost like a rewards program at a typical store. You’ll continue to get more Obol Points for every 1000 Gold Crowns spent. It will take a few runs to accrue enough Gold Crowns for your first Obol Point, but the rewards are worth it and it takes no extra effort; just keep doing what you’re naturally doing.
Once you get your first Obol Point and return to the Crossroads (where you can also equip Keepsakes in Hades 2), head down to the Wretched Broker. There will be a strange chest sitting on the end of the dock nearby. This chest is known as Charon’s stash and is where you can use your hard-bought Obol Points.
When you open Charon’s stash, you’ll be presented with multiple reward options, such as 20 Ash or 80 Psyche. You can purchase these resource bundles for 1, 2, or 3 Obol Points. Upon purchasing one of these bundles, you’ll need to clear either 20, 40, or 60 rooms before the reward actually ships to you. While this wait can be annoying, the resources are worth it to better progress through Hades 2.
