ADEMOLA Lookman has been included in the 2023/2024 UEFA Europa League Team of the Season following his historic hat-trick in Atalanta’s triumph in the final on Wednesday night.
However, his fellow Super Eagles star Victor Boniface is not one of the 11 players in the team selected by UEFA’s Technical Observer panel despite registering five goals and one assist in eight appearances in the competition.
Lookman became the first player in the history of the Europa League to score three goals in the final as Atalanta thrashed previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in Dublin, Ireland, while Boniface was brought on by the losing side at the beginning of the second half.
The 26-year-old Lookman leads three other players from Atalanta in the Team of the Season, with Leverkusen also having four stars in the team. Semi-finalists AS Roma and Marseille supplied the rest.
Lookman, who also scored in the semi-final against Marseille, is part of the three-man attack in the Europa League Team of the Season along with the French club’s Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
Roma’s Mile Svilar is in goal, with his teammate Gianluca Mancini, Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah and Berat Djimsiti the three centre-backs.
Jeremie Frimpong of Leverkusen and Atalanta’s Matteo Ruggeri are the wing-backs, with Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta and Granit Xhaka of Leverkusen the central midfielders.
