Chris Pratt hypes up his upcoming thriller Mercy. Mercy is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and tells the story of a detective who maintains his innocence after being accused of a crime. The film is set for release in 2025 and will be led by Pratt, who has a busy upcoming schedule including films such as The Garfield Movie and The Electric State.
Speaking with Collider, Pratt promises big things for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Mercy. For the actor, this script was an instant-yes, for he reportedly “picked it up [and] didn’t put it back down” after he had finished reading it. He used bold language to describe the film, including calling it “wildly fresh,” “inventive,” and “absolutely original.” He also praised co-star Rebecca Ferguson, calling her “amazing” and “incredible,” as well as offering his approval to other Mercy team members as well. Pratt’s hyping of this script adds intrigue to Mercy, an otherwise lower-profile upcoming sci-fi release. Mercy is a story of a future in which someone was accused of a crime they did not commit. On its face, this plot seems fairly trite, as wrongful accusations are an oft-used story trope, and have even been used in multiple other forms of science fiction (e.g. Minority Report). Pratt’s tease, however, suggests that there is more to Mercy than initially meets the eye, adding to its excitement.
Pratt and Ferguson lead the Mercy cast. Ferguson has been growing her blockbuster career in recent years, acting in major roles in films such as Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, Dune, and Dune: Part Two. Ferguson has also proven herself multidimensional and talented in the science-fiction genre specifically, having also starred in the Apple TV+ series Silo. This background makes Ferguson an exciting choice for any sci-fi work, and thus a great addition to the Mercy cast.
Mercy has also cast a number of supporting characters thus far. This includes roles for Annabella Wallis, Kenneth Choi, Kali Reis, Kylie Rogers, Chris Sullivan, Rafi Gavron, Noah Fearnley, James McBride, Tom Rezvan, and Renata Ribero. Ferguson and Pratt are by far the biggest-name cast members of that group, suggesting that the story will mainly emphasize the pair rather than be an ensemble piece. Mercy is written by Marco van Belle and produced by Robert Amidon, Majd Nassif, and Charles Roven. Hopefully, the film can live up to Pratt’s high hopes as Mercy continues production.
