Murder of Uniport Student: Court adjourns trial of boyfriend to June

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned the murder trial of Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, to June 7th, 21st, and 27th, 2024.

Okoligwe is accused of killing his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level student of Biochemistry at the same university.

He was arrested and paraded by the Rivers State Police Command in 2023, after allegedly attempting to dispose of Otueneโ€™s remains, which were reportedly found in his apartment.

During the trial on Friday, the prosecution counsel, O.C. Mbaba, applied for a motion to amend the information before the court, which was granted by the trial judge, Justice Chinwe Nsirim.

Justice Nsirim subsequently adjourned the proceedings to June 7th, 21st, and 27th, 2024, to allow the prosecution counsel to amend the charge and commence the full trial.
