Nigerian Senate vows to protect rights of journalists

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerian media practitioners of the protection of their rights.

Akpabioโ€™s assertion was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, to commemorate 2024 World Press Freedom Day.

He said: โ€œOn behalf of the Senate and the National Assembly, I wish to congratulate all media practitioners, especially those who have put their lives on the line in pursuit of truth and justice.

โ€œThe 10th National Assembly is committed to all that will strengthen press freedom and we will not condone anything that may trample on the rights of journalists.โ€

The lawmaker also charged the media industry to make conscious efforts to set an agenda on climate change and educate the people.
