Ogun police launches manhunt for landlady, husband who disposed tenant’s body in canal

In a shocking turn of events, a landlady identified as Bola Abiodun and her husband, known simply as Sunday, have fled their residence in Temidire community, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. The couple is accused of disposing of their tenant’s body in a nearby canal.

The incident, which took place on May 8, 2024, at approximately 12:05 pm, has prompted the Ogun State police command to launch a manhunt for the couple following their sudden disappearance after the alleged crime.

According to a police source familiar with the case, the deceased tenant, known as Iya Ibukun, was involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 5, 2024. Sustaining injuries from the accident, she resorted to self-medication due to concerns about her inability to afford medical treatment. Tragically, she passed away a few days later in her apartment.

Suspicions arose among residents when the body of the deceased tenant could not be accounted for, leading to the discovery that the landlady and her husband had allegedly disposed of it in a nearby canal.

Mosuru Akindele, the chairman of the Community Development Association, was alerted to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, and youth leader Olabode Kazeem was also informed.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that efforts were underway to retrieve the body from the canal.

Additionally, police officers discovered a two-year-old boy in the residence and placed him in a welfare facility.

The distressing episode underscores the urgent need for justice and vigilance to prevent such a tragedy from occurring in the future.
