The release date, several new cards, and preorder details for Pokémon TCG’s Shrouded Fable expansion have been revealed. In fact, the set itself has just been announced for the Western market, though it should arrive later this Summer. At the moment, the popular Trading Card Game is starting to expand its portrayal of Generation 9 game content with the upcoming set, Twilight Masquerade. The expansion set for late May will focus on The Teal Mask DLC for Scarlet and Violet, though the release of Pokémon TCG: Twilight Masquerade will not cover all elements of Kitakami.
That is where the Shrouded Fable expansion should come in. A portion of the newly announced set had already been revealed as the Night Wanderer expansion, exclusive to Japan’s market, had seen some cards showcased. The Night Wanderer set will continue to expand on the Land of Kitakami though it will focus on Pecharunt and the Loyal Three Legendary group, all of which are heavily featured in Scarlet and Violet’s Epilogue called Mochi Mayhem. Now, it has been confirmed that these elements present in Night Wanderer will be translated for release via the Shrouded Fable expansion for Pokémon TCG.
As previously speculated, the new expansion is confirmed to integrate a portion of the cards present in Night Wanderer and translate them for the Western market. Officially revealed by The Pokémon Company and reported on by Pokebeach, Shrouded Fable is an upcoming expansion set to arrive this Summer. The release date for Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable is August 2, according to the website. This date coincides with the previous rumors that the cards from Night Wanderer would arrive at some point in August.
Along with the much-anticipated release date, a few other details about the upcoming expansion were revealed. One important piece of information that was shared is the number of new cards per card type that will be present in the set. Another noteworthy aspect of the Shrouded Fable expansion is that it will feature an exclusive visual effect on certain cards that may ultimately change how players collect cards in Pokémon TCG.
As was reported by Pokebeach, the Shrouded Fable set will feature a new visual effect. The website mentions it will have cards with a reverse holofoil effect, which is already available in cards, but with a new foil pattern surrounding the card’s artwork. This means that the visual effect on reverse holofoil cards will be updated, though exactly what it will look like has not yet been revealed or described in detail. Other than that, the site also reveals how many new cards for each type will be introduced with Pokémon TCG’s Shrouded Fable set:
Of these cards, a few have already been revealed. Among the products that have been revealed, some of them contain promo cards. One of the upcoming products features an Illustration Rare version of Kingambit, while another boasts a Special Illustration Rare version of Greninja ex. The Elite Trainer Boxes (ETB) also contain a promotional Illustration Rare card of Pecharunt. The pre-evolved forms that lead up to Kingambit and Greninja ex can also be seen in the announced products for Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable.
A series of products for the upcoming expansion were also announced, including details of preorders for a premium package. In total, Shrouded Fable will have eight different types of products that feature several of its cards and boosters. The Elite Trainer Boxes, for instance, will boast multiple boosters along with accessories that represent the Loyal Three – including card shields and damage-counter dice. There are also products containing promotional cards with Illustration Rare and Special Illustration Rare prints that can only be obtained through these sets, as they do not come in booster packs.
The table below lists all eight types of products related to Pokémon TCG: Shrouded Fable, its release date, and its contents, according to Pokebeach:
This year has been important for the Trading Card Game, as it starts focusing on a lot of the side content available in the Gen 9 titles for Nintendo Switch. The presence of Pecharunt and the Loyal Three in a new set had already been teased by some cut cards in Pokémon TCG: Twilight Masquerade, which will most likely now appear in the recently announced Shrouded Fable expansion.
