Police arrest five robbery suspects terrorising passengers along Numan-Jalingo highway

Five men linked with a series of armed robberies and kidnappings along the Numan-Jalingo have been arrested.

The Adamawa State Police Command, which disclosed this in a statement obtained Tuesday morning, said its operatives, working in collaboration with hunters on May 10, 2024, arrested the suspects.

โ€œThe arrest was as a result of a timely response to distress calls made to police that the road linking Numan and Jalingo of Adamawa and Taraba States, respectively, was blocked by armed robbers,โ€ the police stated.

The statement, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said a timely response yielded a positive result, as five out of seven were arrested.

โ€œThe suspects, on May 9, 2024, at about 11:30pm armed themselves with offensive weapons, blocked Numan-Jalingo Road, robbed commuters of their belongings and kidnapped three of the passengers into a thick forest.

โ€œThe Commandโ€™s response team aggressively gave a hot chase to the kidnappers, leading to their arrest, recovery of offensive weapons and successful rescue of the kidnapped victims,โ€ the statement explained.

It gave the names of the suspects as Adamu Usman, 25; Sule Abba, 20; Abdullahi Muhammed, 20; Aliyu Abubakar, 26; and Isah Musa, 25.

It said the suspects are residents of Kedemure and Barikin Sajo of Demsa and Song local government areas.
