Commercial activities in Umuahia, Abia State capital were on Thursday, disrupted by the May 30 Sit-At-Home order given by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The sit-at-home, according to IPOB, was in honour of innocent people killed during the Nigerian civil war.
Although the Abia State capital was relatively peaceful, commercial activities including banking, trading, transportation and schools suffered losses as many shops were not opened while few commercial transporters who plied the roads complained of low passenger patronage.
Some roads and streets including Uzuokoli Road, Isi Gate and Aba Road were deserted as only a few shops opened.
The popular Isi Gate Centre at Warri street by Umuwaya did not have its usual buzz of people and vehicles, only a few traders and motorists were seen while many empty tables were sighted at the street market along Umuwaya by Owerri Road.
Some burial ceremonies were postponed while some government offices recorded a very low turnout of civil servants.
Security agents were also seen stationed or patrolling roads in the city to maintain law and order.
At 12noon, there were also rumours of gunshots around the Umudike junction of the town but the claims were not confirmed by the Police.
From Aba, there were reports that some soldiers stationed near Ogbo Hill were killed by unknown gunmen.
However, the reported attack on the military men was not confirmed by the state government or the Police at the time of this report.
