The Equalizer will address the growing relationship between McCall and Dante, according to one of its stars. A reboot of the original 1980s series of the same name, the CBS crime drama premiered in February 2021, and focuses on the character of Robyn McCall, a divorced single mother and former CIA operative, who becomes a vigilante for justice. Queen Latifah stars alongside a strong supporting cast that includes Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, and Liza Lapira. The show is currently in season 4, and in April, CBS renewed The Equalizer season 5.
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Kittles discussed the burgeoning relationship between his character Marcus Dante, and McCall, and how things could be evolving in the right direction for the pair. When quizzed on the fact that McCall’s life doesn’t leave much room for relationships, Kittles reveals that the show will explore this very aspect, and confront the possible romantic future that the pair might have. Check out the Sons of Anarchy actor’s comments below:
Many viewers will be hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the characters’ will-they-won’t-they story arc, and Kittles’ comments suggest that this could well be what transpires. However, characters such as Dante and McCall live lives that are complicated and dangerous, and McCall could place him in danger if they finally get together. As two of the most beloved characters from The Equalizer TV show, the series will need to handle their storyline with care.
Robyn has already had one doomed romantic relationshipโโโโโโ, which ended in divorce from her ex-husband Miles, with his new family targeted in one episode. However the situation with Dante is different, as he is a cop, and therefore used to dealing with crime and danger. He and McCall have the commonality of dangerous careers that don’t allow much time for anyone else.
When a successful show creates a romance between two leading characters it can always be a risky maneuver, and one that doesn’t always go down well with audiences. However, in the case of The Equalizer, audiences have been clamoring for the pair to get together. With two episodes of The Equalizer season 4 still to go, there could be a major McCall and Dante development to close the season, otherwise, viewers will need to wait for season 5 to see how things progress between the pair.
