Two soldiers have been allegedly shot dead by ‘unknown gunmen’ in Aba, Abia State, amidst the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in commemoration of the Biafra Civil War which began 37 days after the declaration of the Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1967.
The video clips, obtained by NewsNGR, showed about 15 masked gunmen who arrived in a Sienna bus and a black SUV attacking two military trucks and shooting sporadically at the army officers.
The incident which allegedly occurred at the popular Obikabia Junction in Ogborhill, Aba, Abia State reportedly led to the death of the soldiers.
“Jesus Christ! The soldiers have been shot dead. They want to set their truck ablaze,” an unidentified voice from the recorded clip said.
The gunmen set the two military trucks ablaze. According to sources who spoke to NewsNGR, at least two soldiers died in the attack.
Attempts to get the response of the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka failed at press time.
“I have just been called by my people in Aba that some people in a Sienna Bus opened fire and killed two soldiers at Obikabia Junction in Ogborhill Aba and also burnt their vehicle at the junction there. Reprisals will surely follow. Is wanton murder the way to commemorate May 30th?” a source who does not want to be mentioned confirmed to NewsNGR.
The fifth video clip showed the military reinforcement after the attackers fled.
Recall that the secessionist sect, the Indigenous People of Biafra had declared May 30, 2024, a sit-at-home in memory of the Biafra.
According to Britannica.com, on “May 30, 1967, Ojukwu declared the secession of the three states of the Eastern region under the name of the Republic of Biafra, which Nigeria’s federal government interpreted as an act of rebellion.”
