There won’t be a new American Idol season 22 episode tonight, Monday, May 6, because the show is no longer airing on Mondays. American Idol season 22 welcomed back longtime host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. It has been one of the most competitive seasons yet, with many incredibly talented contestants vying to be the next American Idol after season 21’s Iam Tongi.
American Idol season 22 has featured several theme nights, including Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night (Top 14), Billboard #1 Hits Night (Top 12), Songs From the Year You Were Born (Top 10), the Judges’ Song Contest (Top 8), and Songs That Make Me Wanna Dance and Adele Night (Top 7). The celebrity mentors this season have included Tori Kelly, Jelly Roll, Gene Simmons, Meghan Trainor, Shania Twain, and Ciara.
American Idol isn’t airing tonight, Monday, May 6, because the show no longer airs on Monday nights. American Idol began airing on Mondays earlier in the season. Beginning on Sunday, March 31 with Hollywood Week, American Idol aired on both Sunday and Monday nights. This continued until Monday, April 29, with the Judges’ Song Contest episode, which Katy won. Until the American Idol season 22 finale, the show will only air on Sundays. There are only two episodes left in the season.
American Idol returns on Sunday, May 12 for its annual Disney Night episode, which will feature the Top 5 finalists singing two classic Disney songs each. The episode will also showcase Katy’s last Disney Night costume. In the past, she’s dressed as Snow White, Ursula, Mrs. Jumbo, Tinker Bell, Ariel, and Elastigirl. It’ll be thrilling to see what her final costume looks like. Katy will most likely go all out for her last Disney Night look.
After two contestants are eliminated on Disney Night, the Top 3 finalists will head to the American Idol season 22 finale on Sunday, May 19. The finale event will be three hours long. The Top 3 finalists will be mentored by Jon Bon Jovi. The episode will also be Katy’s last episode before she leaves the show. Her replacement has not yet been announced.
American Idol season 22 has been one of the greatest seasons ever. There was so much talent that it could’ve benefited from an American Idol Comeback Competition to give some of the eliminated contestants another chance. With only two episodes left before the season finale, it’s so very exciting to see who’ll be crowned the next American Idol.
