Days after a confrontation with some youths during a wedding event, Soji Adetunji, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ifelodun/Boripe and Boluwaduro federal constituency in Osun State, has distributed empowerment items to his constituents.
The incident occurred last Saturday in Ada town, Boripe Local Government Area, where Adetunji’s convoy was reportedly attacked by a group of youths.
According to eyewitnesses, the lawmaker’s supporters from Ikirun came to his defence, leading to a clash between the two groups.
The youths were seen pelting Adetunji with stones and sticks, while his security aide tried to maintain order.
Adetunji eventually left the scene as the altercation escalated.
Nurudeen Abolaji, the media assistant to the lawmaker, explained that the clash involved youths from Ikirun, Iragbiji, and Aagba communities, whom he claimed had already been engaged in a disagreement before Adetunji’s arrival.
Abolaji claimed that the incident had nothing to do with the lawmaker or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and that no vehicles in Adetunji’s convoy were damaged.
Four days after the confrontation, on Wednesday, Adetunji organised an empowerment programme at Akirun High School in Ikirun, where he distributed various items to his constituents, including plastic chairs and tables, sewing machines, motorcycles, fumigating machines, and standing fans.
The event was attended by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at the event, Adetunji said that the gesture was aimed at improving the business prospects of his constituents and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.
“This is about providing tools for self-sufficiency, creating opportunities for growth, and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. With these resources, I believe we can ignite a wave of entrepreneurship and innovation that will ripple across our constituency,” said the lawmaker.
