At least 600 residents of the Shiroro Local Government of Niger state were displaced after an attack by bandits in some communities shortly after the celebration of sallah.
The state Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management announced this in a statement signed by its director of media and strategy, Habibu Wushish.
It said, “Niger State has also experienced repeated shocking and distressing attacks by bandits in Lanta, Tunga, Dnakau and Juweedna villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Erena.
“Currently, about 600 people have been displaced. Many cattle and sheep were destroyed but no abductions were reported. But many houses in Lanta village were burnt down by the bandits.”
Residents of several communities in the state have lamented the ongoing bandit attack where people have been killed and others kidnapped for ransom.
Specifically, the residents who complained of their helplessness said that there was no security personnel in the local government, which made it easy for the attackers to operate for hours without resistance.
