Bauchi Police orders investigation into residents killing hunter mistaken for criminal

The Bauchi State Police Command said it has ordered a discreet Investigation into the killing of a hunter by residents of the state

It expressed this in a statement on Friday by the Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil.

According to him, the police received a distress call from Gwallameji that a group of hunters led by Commander Saidu Musa, โ€˜Mโ€™ 49-year-old armed with machetes and guns, were at the area to apprehend an unidentified person.

It said this followed a complaint by one Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge Gwallameji and residents mistook them for armed robbers and responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring them.

The aggrieved villagers further burnt their motorcycles, โ€œone of the hunters, Nasiru Adam, โ€˜Mโ€™, a 27-year-old resident of Tani-Yola, sustained severe injuries.

Despite being rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention, Adam was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Similarly, on June 2, during a reprisal attack by a rival group of hoodlums known as โ€˜Yan Tokaraโ€™ in the metropolis one Rabiu Shehu was killed.

โ€œThe attack led to the death of Rabiu Shehu, also known as Rambo, a 21-year-old resident of Muda Lawal, Bauchi.

โ€œHe was attacked and stabbed in the stomach and neck by an unknown person suspected to be a member of the rival group in the Bakin Kura area. Despite being taken to the Specialists Hospital, Bauchi for medical examination, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Wakil reported that the command has directed tactical commanders, area commanders, and DPOs to thoroughly search the state to apprehend the criminals, stating that a discreet investigation has been ordered to uncover the circumstances leading to the deaths of the two individuals.

โ€œThere is a heavy deployment of officers throughout the night, and every corner of the state will be thoroughly searched to ensure the arrest of those responsible.โ€ the statement said.
