CAACASVI demands probe into alleged rot in NUPRC

The Citizens Awareness Against Corruption And Social Vices Initiative (CAACASVI), a rights group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The call, according to the body, is line with the federal governmentโ€™s appraisal of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in consonance with the activities marking one year in office and to gauge the performance of the current administration.

The group whose strategic mandate focuses on the fight against corruption and entrenchment of transparency in public space, said it arrived at this position following repeated allegations against the operations of NUPRC under Gbenga Komolafe by concerned Nigerians.

In a press statement signed by the trio of Comrade Danesi Momoh, Dr. Abdulquadir Y. Lawal, and Amb. Olukolade Akindele; head of publicity, Director of Research & Documentation and director of Mobilisation & Logistics for CAACASVI respectively, the group decried the alleged rot in NUPRC and urged Mr. President to act swiftly and sanitise the commission.

The release reads in part: โ€œAs an agency that monitors the oil and gas industry to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and laws, as well as oversees the safety and other regulations that relates to the exportation and importation of petroleum products into the country, the enormity of the responsibility of the commission is well underscored and its strategic importance to the economy cannot be over-emphasised.โ€
