ENUGU Rangers have emerged as the winners of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League title after a 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in Enugu.
The Flying Antelopes secured the trophy on home soil, with Kenechukwu Agu and Chidiebere Nwobodo netting the all-important goals.
Agu struck in the 32nd minute and Nwobodo added the second goal in the 65th minute as Rangers won the NPFL title for the first time since 2016.
It is Rangers’ eighth NPFL title, leaving Enyimba as the only more successful club in the Nigerian top flight.
With the victory, Rangers opened an unassailable five-point gap on second-placed Remo Stars with only one more round of games to end the campaign.
Remo Stars had a chance to delay Rangers’ party but they were beaten 2-1 at Sunshine Stars, with Chinedu Nwosu bagging a brace for the Akure side.
Enyimba stay in third place two points behind Remo Stars despite a 2-1 defeat to Sporting Lagos, who are still 17th, the final relegation spot as fellow strugglers Bayelsa United defeated 3SC 2-1 in Yenagoa.
