THE Federal Capital Territory Police Command stated that its special forces guard brigade, working with DSS hunters, stormed several known kidnapping camps in Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest, Kaduna State, and apprehended four suspects.
According to a statement issued today by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the operation, which took place on Friday, was part of an ongoing effort to combat criminality in the FCT.
The suspects apprehended include Yahaya Abubakar, 25,’m’ of Mpape, Mohammed Mohamed, 32,’m’ of Zuba (an ex-convict), Umar Aliyu, 20, and Nura Abdullahi, 32, both ex-convicts from Kubwa and Zuba hills.
According to Adeh, the suspects openly confessed to being part of an infamous bandit syndicate known as ‘Mai One Million’, which has been responsible for a series of kidnappings and other terrible crimes in the FCT and surrounding areas.
According to her, the coordinated effort resulted in a shootout between the bandits and security officers, which led them to flee and the eventual rescue of the victims.
She went on to say that illegal structures built by the kidnappers in all of the patrolled camps had been completely destroyed.
“While the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families and loved ones, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, lauded the effort of the security operatives in the fight against criminality in the Nation’s Capital.
“He further reiterates the command’s unflinching commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the residents of FCT,” the statement added.
