Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two individuals in separate incidents.
The commandโs Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, said on Thursday, in a press statement, that the police received a distress call from Gwallameji that a group of hunters, led by Saidu Musa, 49, armed with machetes and guns, were in the area to apprehend an unidentified person following a complaint by Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge, Gwallameji.
Mistaking the hunters for armed robbers, the residents responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring them.
โOne of the hunters, Nasiru Adam, 27, of Tani-Yola, sustained severe injuries. Despite being rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention, he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. Also, three of their motorcycles were burnt,โ Wakil said.
Wakil stated that in a related incident, the police reported a reprisal attack by a rival group of hoodlums known as โYan Tokaraโ on Tuesday, June 2.
The attack led to the death of Rabiu Shehu, 21, also known as Rambo, a resident of Muda Lawal, Bauchi.
Shehu was reportedly attacked and stabbed in the stomach and neck by an unknown person suspected to be a member of the rival group in the Bakin Kura area.
He was confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the Specialists Hospital in Bauchi.
โThere is a heavy deployment of officers throughout the night, and every corner of the state will be thoroughly searched to ensure the arrest of those responsible,โ the police spokesperson stated.
