A devastating incident occurred on Wednesday, at a popular wine bar situated on Gas Turbine Road, Rumuekini, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
An electrical technician, simply identified as Austin from Kogi State, was fatally electrocuted while performing repair work on the ceiling of the establishment.
It was gathered that the staff of the wine bar were thrown into confusion on what to do immediately the incident occured.
Some concerned neighbours had raised alarm after they learnt about the incident which prompted the management of the wine bar to make a formal compliant at the Choba Police Division and officers were drafted to the scene to retrieve the corpse of the deceased and carry out on the spot assessement of the scene.
When reached for comment, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident. She said: “Yes, I can confirm that the incident occurred.
“Officers from the Choba Police Division have conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene, and further investigation is still ongoing.
The deceased’s body has been taken to the mortuary for further examination,” she said.
